Blueridge Adds UNIX and SQL Platforms to OPTIX® Flint Hill, VA - November 13, 1995 - Blueridge Technologies, "The Internet Document Management Company," announced that their OPTIX Network Document Management System has been ported to two of the most popular UNIX platforms: Sun SPARC® and the IBM RS/6000®. Simultaneously, Blueridge announced support for two of the leading SQL databases: Sybase® and Oracle®, which join the Informix® SQL database already supported by OPTIX. According to Keith Ellis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Blueridge, "These ports continue Blueridge's policy of supporting off-the-shelf, industry-standard products that allow our clients to implement state-of-the-art document management technology on platforms they already own." With the addition of the new UNIX platforms, OPTIX becomes one of the most scalable solutions in the document management industry. You can start with a small departmental server and then scale all the way up to a full sized UNIX-based mainframe with symmetric multiprocessors and enough horsepower to service thousands of users. Says Ellis, "Our client/server architecture uses industry-standard TCP/IP, the same protocol that powers the global Internet. So an OPTIX system can easily support users across the hall or around the world." With the addition of the new SQL platforms, OPTIX becomes one of the most versatile solutions in the document management industry. By building OPTIX around industry standard SQL databases, it makes it easier for the user to integrate document management into an existing data processing environment and easier to image-enable existing databases. Founded in 1988, Blueridge Technologies is one of the industry's oldest and most respected providers of electronic document management systems (EDMS). Long the leading industrial-strength document imaging and workflow system for Apple Macintosh computers, in 1994 OPTIX became the first electronic document management system to offer workflow, document imaging, document control, COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk), and natural language text retrieval for both Windows and Macintosh workstations. Via the new OPTIX WEB interface, OPTIX also supports popular Web browsers, including Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer from Microsoft, Mosaic, and all the client platforms these products support, including Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX workstations. An online demo of OPTIX WEB is available at http://www.optixweb.com. Blueridge Technologies is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Metters Industries. OPTIX systems begin in the range of $40,000 and include server software, client software for both Macintosh and Windows, installation, training, and support. |
