Blueridge Offers the First Scriptable and Recordable Document Management System for the Macintosh

FLINT HILL, Va. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - July 1, 1996 - Blueridge Technologies, "The Internet Document Management Company (TM)," announced that their OPTIX®; Document Management System is the first scriptable and recordable document management solution for the Macintosh. OPTIX, a leading cross-platform system, is also scriptable on the Windows platform.

According to Craig Landrum, Chief Technologist at Blueridge Technologies, "By merging the capabilities of AppleScript with OPTIX, we enable our customers to customize OPTIX to fit their individual needs. More importantly, because AppleScript is so user-friendly, they won't need to learn a programming language in order to do this."

AppleScript®, a standard feature of the Macintosh operating system, enables users to easily build customized scripts that automate processes. It also allows users to combine the functions of all AppleScript compliant third-party applications into a single, user-defined process.

A script is not limited to steps performed by a single program. Users can instruct a script to open one program, carry out a task, close that program, open a new program, carry out a new task, and so on until the project is completed. In a sense, AppleScript and OPTIX allow users to create a hybrid program that takes advantage of the best features of many different programs, all with a single mouse click.

Howie Swaim, Director of Marketing at Blueridge, explains "Our customers are looking for a powerful, full-featured, off-the-shelf product that gives them all the tools that they need to manage and control their documents. That's exactly what we provide. At the same time we realize that every business is a unique environment. By supporting scripting and recording, we're offering the best of two worlds, a powerful, full-featured, off-the-shelf system, and one that can be easily tailored to individual computing environments."

According to Carlos Montalvo, director of Apple's Interactive Media Group, "One of the key challenges of an enterprise-wide document management system is to integrate it with the existing computing environment. By fully implementing AppleScript, one of the most powerful features of the Mac OS, OPTIX has made this kind of integration as easy as point and click."

Founded in 1988, Blueridge Technologies is one of the industry's oldest and most respected providers of electronic document management systems (EDMS). Long the leading industrial-strength document imaging and workflow system for Apple Macintosh computers, in 1994 OPTIX became the first electronic document management system to offer workflow, document imaging, document control, COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk), and natural language text retrieval for both Windows and Macintosh workstations. Via the new OPTIX WEB interface, OPTIX also supports popular Web browsers, including Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer from Microsoft, Mosaic, and all the client platforms these products support, including Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX workstations. An online demo of OPTIX WEB is available at http://www.optixweb.com. Blueridge Technologies is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Metters Industries.

OPTIX systems begin in the range of $40,000 and include server software, client software for both Macintosh and Windows, installation, training, and support.
