Blueridge Adds Next Generation Text Retrieval From Excalibur

Imaging Expo NY, NY - October 1, 1996 - Blueridge Technologies, "The Internet Document Management Company(TM)," announced today that they have integrated the latest version of Excalibur RetrievalWare(TM) from Excalibur Technologies with version 5.1 of their cross-platform OPTIX® Document Management System.

The OPTIX Document Management System enables users to scan, store, route, annotate, and retrieve an unlimited number of documents. It is the first industrial-strength document management system to be optimized for Macintosh, Windows, and the Internet. A complete OPTIX system can include Workflow, Document Imaging, Text Retrieval, Document Management and Control, Optical Storage, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and Computer-Output-To-Laser Disk (COLD). By integrating Excalibur RetrievalWare, Blueridge significantly enhances the text retrieval capabilities of OPTIX.

Excalibur RetrievalWare offers consumers a cutting-edge alternative to traditional search and retrieval systems. It combines two of the most powerful text retrieval technologies currently available, semantic network technology and Adaptive Pattern Recognition Processing (APRP), into a single package. This combination insures the delivery of accurate, relevant information, regardless of the complexity, format, condition of source documents, or the experience of the user. Excalibur RetrievalWare, because it is so easy to use, frees users from the need to learn arcane and specialized search languages.

Semantic network technology offers users a built-in knowledgebase of 400,000 word meanings and over 1.6 million word relationships. It recognizes phrases like real estate and kangaroo court as single units of meaning, not individual words. It also recognizes multiple meanings of words such as concrete. Users simply point and click to choose the meaning appropriate for their queries.

APRP offers the next generation in digital information retrieval. It provides end-users a high-degree of confidence that queries will return accurate results regardless of 'dirty data' or spelling errors.

Pat Condo, President and CEO for Excalibur, had this to say about the latest OPTIX, "Simply put, OPTIX and Excalibur RetrievalWare offer companies seeking a complete, industrial-strength document management solution, the very best information retrieval technology coupled with the very best workflow, and document management technologies."

Founded in 1988, Blueridge Technologies is one of the industry's oldest and most respected providers of electronic document management systems (EDMS). Long the leading industrial-strength document imaging and workflow system for Apple Macintosh computers, in 1994 OPTIX became the first electronic document management system to offer workflow, document imaging, document control, COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk), and natural language text retrieval for both Windows and Macintosh workstations. Via the new OPTIX WEB interface, OPTIX also supports popular Web browsers, including Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer from Microsoft, Mosaic, and all the client platforms these products support, including Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX workstations. An online demo of OPTIX WEB is available at http://www.optixweb.com. Blueridge Technologies is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Metters Industries.

OPTIX systems begin in the range of $40,000 and include server software, client software for both Macintosh and Windows, installation, training, and support.
