Blueridge Technologies Announces First Electronic Document Management System for Linux OS

Flint Hill, VA --- May 13, 1999 --- Blueridge Technologies has completed a full port of it world-class OPTIX Electronic Document Management System to the Linux operating system. Craig Landrum, Chief Technical Officer and co-founder of Blueridge Technologies, explains, "This is a full port of our server to Linux, incorporating high-speed scanning, indexing, storage, retrieval, security, forms processing, foldering, web access, and workflow. Because of the stability of Linux, we feel it's an ideal platform on which to offer our electronic document management solution to all business environments."

OPTIX allows users to manage all of their paper documents and electronic files in a cross-platform, client-server environment -- functioning, in essence, as an electronic filing cabinet. OPTIX stores any type of electronic file, including single and multi-page documents, images, word processing files, spreadsheets, multimedia presentations, sound and video files, electronic mail, and collections.

When storing documents in OPTIX, users are prompted to complete an index screen that includes such fields as: document name, document description, keywords, and creation date. OPTIX comes complete with an application generator which allows users to quickly and easily set up indexing tailored to their specific requirements. When the user wishes to retrieve a document, he simply enters relevant information into a query screen and all documents matching the search criteria are presented for consideration.

According to Landrum, "You have to see it to believe how easy it is to get up and running. Unlike typical EDMS 'toolkits' that require a programming staff and months of installation time, OPTIX allows a user to design, implement, scan, index, and retrieve, all within an hour. And its not proprietary indexing Á our Linux server uses Oracle to manage all user and system database tables."

OPTIX Server for the Linux OS is available immediately, with full client workstations available for both Macintosh and Windows PCs. Craig Landrum and other Blueridge Technologies staff will be demonstrating OPTIX for the Linux operating system at the Fifth Annual Linux Expo in Raleigh, North Carolina, May 18-22, 1999. Come visit Blueridge in booth # 118.
